PLASTIC – A GLOBAL PROBLEM

Plastic is a huge global problem and we all need to do our bit to help towards reversing the damage by reducing the amount of single use plastic we use, trying to use sustainably sourced products wherever possible, and making sure we recycle any packaging that is marked as recyclable.

As a company, we always want our customers to feel good about their purchase choices which is why we have transitioned to eco-friendly packaging across our range.  It’s taken a lot of time and trials to find the best solution, but we are delighted to have made these changes which help in a small way with our global plastic problem and give our customers the confidence to purchase with a good conscience.

All of our stand-up pouches for our Instant Blends and Barista Blend catering packs are fully recyclable. Our Barista Blend retail tubs are made from paper and can be recycled or composted within the paper stream with an inner sachet which is also recyclable.

Here are some simple tips on how to reduce our plastic impact on the planet:

  • Carry a reusable water bottle in your bag – 7 billion plastic water bottles are used each year, with the average person in the UK now using 150 plastic water bottles every year – that’s more than 3 a week.
  • Ditch the 1 time use plastic – disposable cutlery, plastic straws, plastic bags, coffee cup lids. Instead bring your own shopping bags, use paper/bamboo/metal or even glass straws – and bring your own cup!
  • Snack on fruit – a double whammy, not only is it a healthier choice but you will also reduce the amount of plastic when switching from sweets, chocolate and crisps that are all packaged in plastic.
  • Cook more – cooking from scratch using wholefoods will ultimately result in less packaging especially if you choose loose fruit and vegetables when shopping (you’ll save some money too as it is often cheaper than prepacked!)
  • Find a refill station – refill your household products from washing up liquid to toilet cleaner, body-care products such as shampoos and shower gels and wholefoods like your flours, grains and pulses.
  • Buy in bulk where you can – not always convenient if you lack storage space but this is another great way of reducing plastic consumption by decanting at home!
  • Always take your litter home – sometimes plastic is unavoidable but always make sure you take it home so it doesn’t end up in a river or a pond affecting wildlife
