Description

Matcha is a superhero amongst teas, as it is super concentrated and packed full of goodness. It’s grown under cover for the last two weeks of cultivation to produce lots of chlorophyll and is highly prized in Japan – it’s even used by Buddhist monks before meditation. It’s a popular latte alternative to coffee in the UK as people discover its unique flavour and remarkable qualities.

Unlike traditional tea that is removed after steeping, matcha is made from a powder derived from whole tea leaves, which you consume entirely when drinking. While both green tea and matcha tea come from the same plant, this brewing method instantly translates to a significant increase of antioxidants in each cup.

Our latte mix combines the finest organic Japanese Matcha green tea powder with unrefined coconut nectar and a touch of Madagascan vanilla powder create a delicious alternative latte.

This Barista Blend is designed to be made with your choice of hot milk as a latte or cold milk as a frappe.  Either dairy or non-dairy milk works well.

Organic Japanese Matcha green tea

We use organically-grown Japanese Matcha grown in Kagoshima. Kagoshima is on an island called Kyûshû, which is famous for its lush vegetation and untouched nature. The warm, moist climate provides the perfect conditions for the growth phase of the tea. The volcanic island boasts nutrient-rich soils, with the ashes of eleven active volcanoes continuing to provide the valuable minerals that help these precious tea plants to grow. These optimum conditions are responsible for the successful cultivation of tea in Kagoshima for about 700 years. The long history and ongoing optimization processes have made Kagoshima the second-biggest tea prefecture in Japan, offering the perfect conditions for ecological cultivation.

Organic Madagascan vanilla

We add a touch of vanilla to our Matcha Latte to create a milder tasting latte. This delicious vanilla is grown on small family-owned farms in Madagascar – famous for growing the best vanilla in the world – and we purchase it from a UK company owned by a native Madagascan who now imports the product direct from these farmers.

Organic raw crystallised coconut nectar

We use raw, unrefined coconut nectar as the sweetener in our lattes. This unique sugar alternative is made from the sweet nectar of coconut blossom and is nutrient-rich.  It also has a lower GI than regular refined white sugar.

Does Matcha taste bitter and grassy?

Pure Matcha can taste bitter and a little ‘grassy’.  Our recipe has a little Madagascan Vanilla added to it, which softens the taste of the Matcha and reduces the bitterness, creating an enjoyable, lighter drink.

What does Matcha do for you?

Matcha has numerous benefits.  It contains compounds called polyphenols, and catechins in particular, which are known to protect the body against disease.  It also contains the amino acid L-theanine, which has benefits for the nervous system.

Is matcha better than coffee?

The caffeine in Matcha is different from the caffeine in coffee.  Matcha contains a compound known as L-theanine, which alters the effects of the caffeine and creates a more relaxed alertness.  So you don’t get the ‘crash’ or caffeine ‘jitters’ that you do from coffee.
